What is an interesting article ?

To write great content, you have to think about what your potential readers are waiting for. You have to put yourself in your reader’s shoes.

Generally, when I read a post on a blog what I want is to learn something new, to have answers to my questions on a topic, to have the feedback of the blogger (is it a good product or not), I want to know why this product is better than another one product, I want some pictures, some tests, some videos, some tips to know where to find the best product at the best price.

A good article is an article who answers to all these questions. So in order to write a great blog post, you’ve got to take a lot of time to prepare it. You need to test personally the product or the service you’re talking about, you need to share your experience to your readers. That’s why we love blog, because we read true stories from true people.

Find a great title to your blog post ?

After you have created a great content, don’t forget to find the best title for your post. It’s very important, because the title of a post is the first thing we saw in the results of a search engine. A good title has to match to your readers’ web searches and to the content of your article.

Since web searches are very oriented by google auto suggest, it’s a good idea to take the main keywords of your blog post and to see what people will type around it.

Let’s take an example.  If you want to write an article about the best video editor on PC, what should you do and not do to make an interesting article.

The bad blogger is the blogger who wants to go fast… He makes some web searches, he takes what others have wrote on several video editors on websites or blogs,  he signs with his blogger name, and conclude that the worst video editor is the best.

A good blogger download trial versions of several video editors, make some tests of them, share his tests, give the pros and the cons of each software, and invites his readers to give their opinions in comments.

Bad and good bloggers can find great titles with respectively poor and rich content. In this case a good title would be “best video editing software for pc in 2012”

In the long term, only the great post will be well ranked in search engines because search engines take into account backlinks and popularity in social networks. Who wants to share a poor article ? Nobody.  Although a great article or test receive usually a lot of shares and backlinks naturally.

Find ideas to write great articles ?

A good content is also a content who has been published at the right time. You can use google trends or google insight for search  to know at what time a content is best searched.

For example if you make an article on “how to create a resume in Word 2010” it’s better to write it just before September when the pike of search appears.

You can watch your google analytics keyword referrals from search engines to refine some articles… Write new, or complete old ones. You can listen to your friends,  to your community in blog comments.
